Can’t see anything other than 4231 suppose the only position if Oggy is out where I think most would be able to name the team is the keeper guessing it will be fab but wouldn’t be surprised if Areola starts

The opening game is not usually an accurate guide to how a season will go. Last year against Newcastle we were simply shocking but we went on to a record breaking EPL season.

Unless we have effective investment in the squad I cannot see us emulating last year’s exploits.

A big game today as three points would be huge and give us a bit of breathing space to bring in a couple of players hopefully, without falling behind.

We do have a strong starting XI and if we perform anything like we have in pre-season I do fancy us. Naturally we have to keep Wilson and Saint-Maximin quiet and we have enough going forward to cause them problems. I’ll go 3-1 with Benrahma to shine.

Yep, in that respect it really is a big 3 points. Lose and it will be what did you expect, no new players etc, it's all gone to shit, we are shit, blah blah. Win and it will be a good start that and I'm sure we will get a few in by the 31st to really build on this win. Just the way it is now, and I don't just mean on here.

When was the last time we won an opening day game?
I can't remember and unfortunately, I can't see today ending that stat. Hope I'm wrong but 2-0 to the Geordie maggots and a torn hamstring for Antonio.

Manuel, I’m hoping that we do have a plan in place to bring in players but also the confidence that our current squad are good enough to get us points before the transfer window closes.

We can give them the benefit of the doubt for now, but if we do end up signing nobody before the deadline then, rightly, there will be questions asked and a lot of pissed off fans. I don’t think it’s asking too much to have at least two quality additions over the next couple of weeks. We can only wait and see…..and hope!
